The Cultural Resource
Technician series (Levels I,II, III, IV) is designed to provide Cultural
Resources employees an opportunity to progress as they gain experience and
training to move to the next higher level.
Incumbent will participate on crews conducting cultural resources field
work (archaeology, ethnography, and other projects), as well as lab and
archiving work on a project-by-project basis; assist with post-field data
processing and tasks/activities which supervisors identify as contributing to
the program; other duties as assigned.
Please note that there are challenging working conditions including
inclement weather, proximity to heavy equipment and odd hours.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of Schitsu’umsh history
Experience with Snchitsu’umshtsn [
Knowledge
of and ability to implement standard field techniques associated with
archaeological and/or ethnographic research
Ability to use hand tools
Demonstrated experience maintaining strict
confidentiality standards
Demonstrated strong record
keeping skills
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication
skills
Must
exhibit professional behavior during encounters with tribal employees, other
agency staff, and anyone encountered during work duties.
Demonstrated ability to work
under strict deadline requirements
Demonstrated better than average work attendance
Familiarity with Section 106 of
National Historic Preservation Act
Familiarity with other relevant resource law e.g.
NEPA, NAGPRA, State of
Familiarity with Columbia
Plateau region cultural resources
Ability to use GPS equipment
Must be physically fit; able to
walk and stand for long periods of time
Able to work effectively with Tribal Elders,
confirming and recording pertinent site information
Willingness to learn to use new
techniques and equipment
Ability to perform job duties well with minimum
supervision
All levels: High
School Diploma or GED.
Good verbal and written communication
Ability to keep clear and accurate
daily records of activities and materials
Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s
license and be tribally insurable
Work in all types of weather and
terrain conditions
Able to lift 40 pounds
Willing and able to work odd hours,
extended hours, and non-standard schedules
Comfortable and able to maintain
professional demeanor in presence of human remains
Must not have been convicted of a felony involving dishonesty within the
past five years.
Tech I: Six months of combined
education and work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties
of this position
Tech
II: Associate’s
Degree and six months of work experience OR
30 months of experience working in
cultural resources, tribal programs preferred
Tech III: Bachelor’s
Degree in Anthropology, History, Archaeology, American Indian Studies or
related field; OR
Associate’s
Degree and 24 months of experience working in cultural resources, tribal
program preferred; OR 48 months of experience working in cultural resources, tribal
program preferred;
Tech IV: Bachelor’s
Degree in Anthropology, History, Archaeology, American Indian Studies or
related field and12 months of experience working in cultural resources, tribal
program preferred; OR
Associate’s
Degree and 36 months of experience working in cultural resources, tribal
program preferred; OR 24 months experience equivalent to Tech IV level; OR 72
months cultural resource project experience.
An
